About Course
The course will cover topics related to antimicrobial resistance including basic definitions and a review of the use of antimicrobials as well as the emergence and spread of resistance. It will guide you through the concepts as well as the importance of resistance dissemination. Through this course you will learn how bacteria become resistant to antibiotics and what mechanisms they may use to achieve this. As part of the course you will also receive training in antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) and the detection of specific resistance in a microbiological laboratory. It includes an additional module that guides you through genome analysis tools in order to detect resistance genes (and or any other genes of interest) in a simple and easy manner using freely available online tools.
